Fred scores 3rd goal in 2 games to give French league leader Lyon 1-0 win over Lille

Fred scored his third goal in two games Saturday to give leader Lyon a 1-0 win over Lille in the French league.
Lyon defender Francois Clerc beat an opponent in the 32nd minute down the right flank before passing to Fred, and the Brazilian forward put the ball past goalkeeper Tony Sylva.
Two minutes later, striker Karim Benzema nearly got through on goal but Sylva charged off his line to collect Mathieu Bodmer's pass. Benzema again almost doubled the lead in the 51st, but shot wide with only Sylva to beat.
Lyon has 55 points while Bordeaux has 49, ahead of its home match with Paris Saint-Germain on Sunday.
Nancy, which drew 0-0 at Lorient, is third with 45 points. Marseille is fourth with 42 points after beating Auxerre 2-1 with goals from Lorik Cana in the seventh and Djibril Cisse in the 22nd.
Former France and Marseille midfielder Benoit Pedretti grabbed a consolation goal in the 89th for Auxerre _ which is coached by former Marseille boss Jean Fernandez.
In front of more than 77,000 fans at Stade de France, Benzema was taken off by coach Alain Perrin after 60 minutes to keep him fresh for Tuesday's Champions League second-leg match at Manchester United. Former Brazil midfielder Juninho and winger Sidney Govou were also taken off.
"It was a good preparation for Manchester," Perrin said. "We wanted to give a rest to a few players, like Karim (Benzema), Juni (Juninho) and Sidney."
Brazil defender Cris made his first start for Lyon since tearing right knee ligaments against Toulouse in August 2007. He reacted quickly in the 48th to kick Lille striker Pierre-Alain Frau's attempt at goal off the line.
"It worked out for him," Perrin said. "There is always a little bit of doubt between playing in training and (playing) a match. He did well."
Lille almost took the lead in the 22nd minute but Michel Bastos fired over the crossbar after sliding to meet Souleymane Youla's cross from the right. In the 59th, Frau hit the crossbar with a fine dipping shot from 25 meters.
A minute after replacing Benzema, Hatem Ben Arfa struck a similar shot which forced Sylva into a leaping save.
Also Saturday, it was: Le Mans 0, Strasbourg 1; Lens 1, Toulouse 1; Metz 2, Caen 1; Monaco 0, Valenciennes 0, and Sochaux 0, Rennes 0.
Saint-Etienne hosts Nice in Sunday's other game.
