CPC signs contract to buy natural gas
Taiwan's state-run petroleum company, CPC Corp., Taiwan, signed a contract Friday to purchase liquefied natural gas from Woodside Co., a leading independent Australian oil and gas company, in a deal that could potentially be worth up to NT$1.5 trillion over 20 years.
Under the deal - which is Taiwan's largest natural gas purchasing contract - Woodside will begin exporting two million to three million tons of liquefied natural gas a year to Taiwan, which would account for 25 percent of Taiwan's yearly demand. The deal would last for 15-20 years.
Global View awards
Global View Magazine will commend 13 local companies for their outstanding performance in meeting their corporate social responsibility, a spokesman said Friday.
This is the fourth year that the monthly magazine has surveyed local companies' performance in terms of corporate social responsibility.
An award presentation ceremony will be held in Taipei April 1, the spokesman said.
Retail turnover
The Taiwan retail industry's turnover amounted to NT$3.27 trillion (US$202.58 billion) for 2007, up 3.45 percent from the year-earlier level, according to tallies released yesterday by the Ministry of Economic Affairs.
The growth rate compares with 1.81 percent recorded for 2006, indicating a slight recovery in domestic demand, MOEA officials said.
