Anders Gloersen, Chandra Crawford win sprint races in Lahti

Anders Gloersen of Norway and Chandra Crawford of Canada won freestyle sprint races at a World Cup cross-country meet Saturday.
Gloersen beat runner-up Andy Newell by 0.4 seconds as the American skied his best race of the season.
Emil Jonsson of Sweden, who leads the sprint World Cup, finished 23rd but still holds a 38-point lead over Ola Vigen Hattestad of Norway, who came third Saturday, with two events left.
In the men's overall, Lukas Bauer of the Czech Republic leads with 1,096 points. Bauer did not compete. Tor Arne Hetland of Norway, seventh in the sprint, moved to third place with 647 points, closing in on Rene Sommerfeldt of Germany, who has 688 points in second place.
Virpi Kuitunen of Finland and Astrid Jacobsen of Norway, who are 1-2 in the women's overall standings, had severe setbacks.
Kuitunen, a favorite after a strong showing Wednesday in Stockholm, did not qualify for the heats. Jacobsen, reigning world champion in the classic-style sprint, did not progress from her quarterfinal heat, finishing 24th for only seven points.
Kuitunen has 1,101 points and Jacobsen 1,022.
