Arms company to be disbanded
Private arms procurement company "Taiwan Goal" is scheduled to be disbanded on March 13, said Board Chairman of the company Wu Nan-jen yesterday in a press release yesterday.
Wu said that the decision to dissolve the company was made during a meeting with shareholders of the company in Taipei yesterday.
The move is believed to echo Premier Chang Chun-hsiung's (張俊雄) previous call to end the project amid criticism from the opposition Kuomintang camp.
The controversial company was established by the Cabinet on January when the Ministry of National Defense was slanted to be the largest shareholder.
Cross-strait ties
A senior official in charge of Taiwan's relations with China yesterday called on mainland authorities to talk with Tawian under the framework of the World Trade Organization if they are sincere about allowing Taiwan professionals to do their businesses in China.
Mainland Affairs Council Vice Chairman Liu Te-hsun said it is necessary for the two sides to talk and sign an agreement in order to protect the rights and interests of Tawian professionals who wish to pursue their careers in China.
Liu made the remark after a spokesman for the Taiwan Affairs Office under China's State Council said it may allow medical doctors in Taiwan to practice medicine in China.
