Honolulu Marathon can't fix mistake
After spending more than US$50,000 and two months going over race videos, Honolulu Marathon Association officials said they are giving up on getting precise results.
Officials said nearly 2,000 finishers on December 9 were left out of the results and less than eight percent of the nearly 23,000 finishers were timed correctly.
The association said problems stemmed from glitches in a new timing system developed by Michigan-based SAI Timing and Tracking.
Harinordoquy hurt
An ankle injury has ruled back row forward Imanol Harinordoquy out of his club Biarritz's rugby game against Stade Francais today and left him a serious doubt for France's Six Nations match against Italy a week later.
Harinordoquy, who sustained the injury playing against Bourgoin in the Top 14 on Sunday, underwent a scan on Thursday which revealed a slight muscular tear.
He will liaise with medical staff from the France team to assess whether he will be fit to play against Italy.
Rebel league
Top-order batsman Lou Vincent has signed with the rebel Indian Cricket League and had his New Zealand Cricket contract torn up, NZC has said.
Vincent, 29, who admitted in a newspaper interview earlier this month he was receiving treatment for depression, had signed with the non-sanctioned ICL without first discussing it with NZC, chief executive Justin Vaughan said.
"I have met with Lou and the New Zealand Cricket Players Association over the past couple of days and have expressed to them how disappointed I was that Lou had breached his NZC contract," Vaughan said in a statement.
Henry pulls out
Swimmer Jodie Henry, who set a world record while winning gold in the 100-meter freestyle at the Athens Olympics, won't defend her title in Beijing due to an injury.
The 24-year-old Henry said yesterday a muscle imbalance in her pelvic region forced her to withdraw from the Australian championships from March 22-29 in Sydney, which are doubling this year as the Olympic trials.
"It has been a very hard decision to make as the Olympics is every swimmer's goal," said Henry.
