Brown-Forman reports third-quarter profit rose 10 percent

Liquor producer Brown-Forman says its profit rose 10 percent in the third quarter higher global demand for its Jack Daniel's and Finlandia Vodka brands and the addition of its Casa Herradura premium tequilas.
The Louisville-based company said Friday it earned $116 million (euro76.7 million), or 94 cents a share, in the three months ended Jan. 31. That is up from a profit of $105.1 million, or 85 cents a share, a year earlier. The year-ago results included a $6.5 million write-down from the company's sale of its Hartmann luggage division.
Revenues in the most recent quarter rose 16 percent to $877.4 million (euro580.25 million).
The company says its third-quarter results also benefited from favorable foreign exchange fluctuations, a big increase in U.S. demand for Gentleman Jack and continued growth for the Jack Daniel's & Cola ready-to-drink product in Australia.
