Australians Corser, Bayliss dominate first Superbikes qualifying session

Locals Troy Corser and Troy Bayliss dominated the first qualifying session Friday for Sunday's two Australian races of the Superbikes world championship.
The Australian pair, who have 11 Superbikes wins at Phillip Island between them, finished 1-2 in the 60-minute qualifying session.
Just 0.038 seconds separated the two, with Corser leading with a time of 1 minute, 32.336 on his Yamaha. Bayliss had 1:32.374 on his new factory Ducati 1098.
Corser is the lap record holder at Phillip Island with a time of 1:31.826, set last year.
Bayliss' Ducati teammate Michel Fabrizio completed the session in third place, ahead of Max Neukirchner (Suzuki) and the Czech Republic's Jakub Smrz (Ducati).
Rounding out the top 10 were Max Biaggi, Ruben Xaus, Regis Laconi, Fonsi Nieto and Carlos Checa.
Less than a second separated the top 10 riders.
Bayliss, who will retire at the end of this season, leads the 15-round world championship after the opening race in Doha, Qatar last weekend.
Final qualifying will be held Saturday followed by the one-lap Superpole shootout to determine grid positions for Sunday's two 22-lap races at Phillip Island.
