First female military spokeswoman to start work next month

Taiwan's first-ever female military spokesperson, Chih Yu-Lang, will start work next month in place of the current spokesperson, Yu Sy-tue, according to a Ministry of National Defense statement released Thursday.
Chih will be the first female military spokesperson and only the fifth female major general in Taiwan's history.
Chih, the military's vice spokesperson currently holding the rank of colonel, will be promoted to major general if she takes on the role of spokesperson, since the position is intended for a major general.
Chih had previously served for 16 years as a reporter for the military newspaper Youth Daily. Her husband held the rank of major general before retiring from military service.
Meanwhile, the MND announced on Wednesday night that Chen Kuo-hsiang, chief of the MND's General Political Warfare Bureau, will be transferred from his post in order to serve as a strategy consultant for the Presidential Office.
Yang Tien-shiaw, former head of Kinmen Defense Command will take Chen's place at the MND, according to a press release issued by the ministry.
It was rumored that Chen was removed from his MND post because he had led the investigation into the private arms procurement company "Taiwan Goal," a controversial project which forced former Defense Minister Lee Tien-yu (李天羽) to resign on Saturday.
Chen, however, clarified his position, stressing that his removal from the helm of the MND's General Political Warfare Bureau had nothing to do with the company.
