Cyprus' president designate names EU health commissioner Kyprianou as foreign minister

Cyprus' president designate Dimitris Christofias named EU Health Commissioner Markos Kyprianou as his foreign minister Thursday, an official statement said.
Kyprianou, 48, will need to resign as commissioner a year before his term formally expires.
Kyprianou, son of late Cyprus President Spyros Kyprianou, was appointed EU health commissioner on May 1, 2004 when the island formally joined the bloc.
Christofias will be sworn in as president later Thursday.
