Royal Bank of Scotland full-year profit climbs nearly 18 percent

Royal Bank of Scotland Group PLC reported Thursday that its full-year profit rose nearly 18 percent in 2007.
RBS, Britain's second-largest bank in terms of market capitalization, reported after-tax profit of 7.3 billion pounds (euro9.7 billion; US$14.5 billion), compared with 6.2 billion pounds in 2006.
Revenue rose 11 percent to 31.1 billion pounds (euro41.1 billion; US$61.8 billion).
The results for 2007 include contributions from ABN Amro, which Royal Bank acquired in mid-October.
Excluding ABN Amro, RBS said its full-year profit gained 22 percent to 7.55 billion pounds (euro10 billion; US$15 billion).
