Guggenheim foundation director to step down, become top adviser

The director of the Solomon R. Guggenheim Foundation is planning to step down.
The foundation's board says Wednesday that Thomas Krens will remain at the foundation as a senior adviser for international affairs and oversee the creation of a Frank Gehry-designed museum in the United Arab Emirates.
Krens has been at the Guggenheim nearly 20 years. The foundation says he will remain director until a successor is hired.
The new director will run the Manhattan flagship museum and Guggenheim satellites including those in Venice, Italy; Berlin; Bilbao, Spain; and Las Vegas.
Krens's directorship has seen two multimillion-dollar restoration projects at the Guggenheim's landmark Frank Lloyd Wright building on Fifth Avenue.
