Wolfsburg beats Hamburger SV to reach semifinals of German Cup

Midfielder Marcelinho scored in extra time Wednesday to send Wolfsburg through to the semifinals of the German Cup with a 2-1 win over Hamburger SV.
Striker Grafite scored from a penalty kick in the 17th minute to put Wolfsburg ahead, after he had been fouled by Hamburg defender Joris Mathijsen.
Rafael van der Vaart equalized in the 70th with a 20-meter volley on an assist from Mohamed Zidan.
Marcelinho, who had a poor game, then scored the winning goal off a through ball in the 109th minute to send Wolfsburg to the semifinals for the second straight year.
Wolfsburg joined Borussia Dortmund and second-division team Carl Zeiss Jena in the final four, while Bayern Munich played crosstown rival 1860 Munich later Wednesday.
Earlier, Paolo Guerrero shot high over an open net to ruin Hamburg's best opportunity in the 21st.
Van der Vaart struck the post in the 50th from a free kick, while teammate Piotr Trochowski hit the crossbar in extra time. Wolfsburg's Edin Dzeko also hit the post.
On Tuesday, Carl Zeiss Jena upset Stuttgart in a penalty shootout after a 2-2 draw in regulation time, and Borussia Dortmund defeated second-division club Hoffenheim 3-1.
