Porsche says production of 911 halted through end of week after explosion

Production of automaker Porsche's 911 model will remain suspended at least through the end of the week following an explosion at the plant where the cars are made, the company said Wednesday.
Two workers were injured in the gas explosion early Monday at the Zuffenhausen factory, the only facility that produces the 911.
The company initially said production would be halted for two or three days, but spokesman Albrecht Bamler said Wednesday that the suspension would now last at least until the end of this week.
The plant usually has an output of 160 cars a day. The company says it expects to make up this week's production shortfall in the course of the year.
Porsche has said that gas leaked from a drying oven in the paint shop and ignited. The workers were taken to a hospital for treatment and later released.
Shares of Porsche Automobil Holding SE, the automaker's parent company, were down 0.4 percent at euro1,171.88 (US$1,740.42) in Frankfurt trading.
