Myanmar blaze leaves 21 injured
At least 21 people were injured in a fire that ripped through the main retail district in Myanmar's second city Mandalay, destroying or damaging 1,500 businesses, state media said yesterday.
The fire damaged more than 1,400 shops and dozens of offices, including a 59-room computer training center operated by the state-run Myanmar Information and Communication Technology, the paper added.
Bird flu outbreak
China confirmed its fourth outbreak of bird flu among poultry this year but said it had been effectively contained.
Nearly 4,000 poultry were killed by the H5N1 virus in Guizhou province, the Ministry of Agriculture said on its Web site Monday.
Fatal shark bite
An Austrian tourist died Monday after being bitten by a shark while diving near the Bahamas in waters that had been baited with bloody fish parts to attract the predators.
It was unclear what type of shark was involved in the attack.
The shark got away before anyone could identify the species.
