Russian opposition leader Kasparov urges West to snub Putin's 'illegitimate' successor

Prominent Russian opposition figure and chess champion Garry Kasparov says Western nations should snub Vladimir Putin's protege Dmitry Medvedev if he wins presidential elections.
Kasparov said Tuesday he plans to boycott the voting Sunday, but is staging two protests the following day against what he calls a "quasi-monarchy." Putin hand-picked Medvedev as his preferred successor, and Medvedev is expected to win overwhelmingly. Kasparov's candidacy collapsed on a technicality.
Kasparov urged Western leaders not to invite Medvedev to the Group of Eight industrialized nations summit in Japan this year.
