Taiwan, UK seen holding good ties
Growing bilateral exchanges in the railway sectors represents a "very healthy relationship" between the United Kingdom and Taiwan, an official of the British Trade & Cultural Office said yesterday at an international seminar in Taipei.
The BTCO Acting Director Charles Garrett said in opening remarks that the number of British experts coming here continues to grow and this is the largest UK rail delegation ever to visit Taiwan.
Garrett added that this "further prove[s] it really is a very healthy relationship between Taiwan and the UK."
"The railways of Taiwan and the UK share many similarities that is to provide safe, reliable and essential public transport in crowded islands and both are committed to the best days of the future," Garrett said.
Mislabeled caviar
Taiwanese who plan to travel to Japan were warned yesterday to steer clear of China-produced caviar sold there that has been mislabeled as originating from Russia.
Consumer Protection Commission division chief Liu Ching-fang's warning came after the economic division of the Taiwan representative office in Japan notified the commission that Seibu Department Stores and SOGO Department Store Co. were found on February 7 to be marketing Chinese-produced caviar as Russian-made.
So far, 270 Japanese consumers have asked to have the product replaced, complaining that "it tasted differently."
