India's Sensex benchmark rises 1.7 percent, boosted by cement companies, power utilities

Indian shares climbed Monday boosted by gains in cement firms and power utilities.
The Bombay Stock Exchange's 30-share Sensex index rose 302 points, or 1.7 percent, to 17,651 points.
On the broader National Stock Exchange, the 50-company S&P Nifty index advanced 91 points, or 1.8 percent, to 5,110 points.
Cement companies led the gains with ACC Ltd. up 5.7 percent at 818 rupees. Ambuja Cements Ltd. rose 4.4 percent to 123 rupees; Grasim Industries Ltd. rose 4.2 percent at 2,912 rupees.
Power utilities also rose, with Reliance Energy Ltd. gaining 4.3 percent to 1,623 rupees and NTPC Ltd. up 2.8 percent at 203 rupees.
Software firms gained with Wipro Ltd. up 4 percent at 440 rupees and Satyam Computer Services Ltd. up 2.6 percent at 450 rupees.
