Malaysia to launch electronic bond trading platform in March

Malaysia's stock exchange will launch an electronic bond trading platform next month that is expected to bolster development in the domestic capital markets, a senior exchange executive said Tuesday.
Bursa which has been developing the platform for the past 15 months, hopes the system will boost liquidity and price transparency on the domestic bond market, making it easier and cheaper for borrowers to raise funds.
"The system is ready to roll," Bursa's head of market development, K. Sree Kumar, told Dow Jones Newswires. "We completed the user acceptance testing in January. We should be able to launch in March."
Bursa was mandated by the government to develop the platform in February 2005 as part of efforts to develop the local capital markets.
