Hot Spring Experience During Cold Christmas

Christmas may not be a declared national holiday in Taiwan, but it is still a time worth making a two-day journey to celebrate this occasion. Going to a hot spring is common for the people in Taiwan in winter. This small island provides a range of choices when it comes to hot springs. Here are 20 suggestions for a weekend at a hot spring and for sightseeing nearby.
Northern Taiwan
In northern Taiwan, check out five famous hot springs: Jinshan Hot Spring in Taipei County; Magtsao Hot Spring, a volcanic one in Yangmingshan; Beitou Hot Spring with the longest history in Taiwan; Wulai Hot Spring in an area with Atayal tribal culture; and Taian Hot Spring in mountainous Miaoii County with an ecotour for bonus. MiaoLi County.
Located in Taipei County, requiring a 30-minute drive from Taipei City, Jinshan has more than just the hot springs. Tourists can also take in scenic north coast. Spots in Jinshan such as Yehliu Geopark are favorite location sites for wedding pictorials. Water bamboo is one of the food specialties to taste in the area. Central Taiwan
The Syue Mountain and Central Mountain are where 64 hot springs and 3 cold springs are located. During the Japanese colonial period, Tungpu Hot Spring, Lushan Hot Spring and Kukuan Hot Spring were of special interest to the Japanese officials. They believed that bathing in these hot springs could alleviate gastric problems, arthritis and skin disorders. Lushan Hot Spring, for example, claimed to have drinkable water, said to be effective in lowering blood sugars. The excellent quality of the spring water led the Japanese colonizers to establish a winery in Puli for brewing alcoholic drinks for the royalty in Japan. The Puli Winery, now a tourist attraction in Nantou County, offers innovative alcoholic products such as rice wine ice-lolly, Shaohsing wine sausages, and other alcoholic drinks. Aside from the natural landscapes the site of aboriginal cultural relics like Ma-He-Po field monument to commemorate the struggle of the Sedek tribe against the Japanese soldiers is worth a look.

Southern Taiwan
Even with its tropical weather, southern Taiwan is also suggested to tourists with interest in special hot spring sites. Guanziling Hot Spring, which is located at Tainan County, is a mud spring that releases methane and it has been burning for around 300 years. The water from the spring appears grayish or even black but it is believed to help treat skin disorders, neuralgia, and gastric ulcers. Female tourists are lured to soak in the Guanziling Hot Spring in their belief that their skin will feel softer and better after bathing there. Glacial marine mud, a skin-care cosmetic, is developed from the mud of the hot spring.
Tainan County also has history. A tour can include the Tainan Confucian Temple, the oldest one in Taiwan for it was built in 1665. The local food specialties, due to Dutch influences, are interesting. The coffin bread, the fried sandwich, eel noodles, and milkifish congee are today part of the traditional Chinese food in the area. For more details, turn to website http://www.liontravel.com
