Domestic businesses earn  NT$23.7t in nine months

The number of domestic business entities had reached over 1.17 million as of the end of September, generating a combined turnover of NT$23.7 trillion (US$729.25 billion) during the first nine months of the year, according to statistics released yesterday by the Directorate General of Budget, Accounting and Statistics.
The turnover posed a year-on-year growth of 4.2 percent, the bulk of which was contributed by the manufacturing sector at over NT$8.76 trillion, the tallies show.
The largest portion of domestic business entities were wholesale and retail businesses, with 612,374 units registered as of September 30. The volume recorded showed year-on-year decline of 0.7 percent, according to the DGBAS figures.
Businesses involving cultural, sports and leisure activities fell to 25,819 units, posing a 7.5 percent drop and representing the largest decline in terms of business unit volume in comparison with other business categories, most of which also saw volume drops.
Despite the drops, however, the turnover recorded mostly increases among the different business categories in the first nine months of this year.
According to the DGBAS tallies, the manufacturing sector recorded a year-on-year turnover growth of 8.3 percent, while the wholesale and retail sector registered a 3.6 percent growth.
