Taiwan beams its message to world

What will pop up on the appearance of the 101 building at the countdown evening this year? The secret was revealed at the press conference Wednesday by Hsieh Wei-chun (left), Tourism Bureau deputy director-general, and Chiang Shih-hwang, chief of secretariat of the Bureau of Foreign Trade (right), and Chen Jun-liang, winner of the Grand Prix Savignacand and now the manager of Free-image Design Company.
Bright golden "2008" and "Taiwan" were printed on the 101 model, and the "i" of "Taiwan" was accentuated by putting a red heart-shape sign on top of it.
"What makes Taiwan so unique and adorable was the people living here. That's why ' i' is emphasized. Also, it conveys a loving Taiwan message because 'i' pronounces the same as 'love' in mandarin Chinese," said Chen.
Last year, Taipei 101 served as foreign company's propaganda and expressed no Taiwan images. Therefore, the Executive Yuan's Tourism Development and Promotion Committee this year gathered Tourism Bureau, Ministry of Economic Affairs and Chunghwa Telecom to win over the lighting rights.
"Like Sydney Harbor Bridge and Eiffel Tower in Paris, Taipei 101's fireworks show is one of the must-shooting events for international media," said Chiang. "We hope to leave an impressive image to the worldwide people in a very short time, which will facilitate the Tourism Bureau, Ministry of Economic Affairs and related organizations to promote Taiwan's tourism and products in the following year," he added.
