Slovenian skier Jerman leads downhill training in Bormio

Slovenian skier Andrej Jerman led the final training session Friday for the World Cup downhill on the exhausting Stelvio course.
Jerman's only victory came in a downhill in Garmisch-Partenkirchen, Germany, last season. He finished fourth here a year ago.
Jerman covered the 3.270-kilometer (2.03-mile) run _ one of the longest on the circuit _ in 2 minutes, 1.26 seconds.
Klaus Kroell of Austria was second, 0.16 seconds behind, and Erik Guay of Canada placed third, 0.43 back. Guay led Thursday's opening training session.
The favorite for Saturday's race is Michael Walchhofer, who won back-to-back downhills here last year and is coming off two victories this season. He was fifth in training.
Walchhofer said he might not use his top pair of skis for the race because he is worried about ruining them on a rock like at the 2005 World Championships here, when he finished third in the downhill behind Americans Bode Miller and the now-retired Daron Rahlves.
Miller, still seeking his first victory this season, was seventh in training.
