Japan to host G7 finance chief talks in February on subprime crisis, oil prices

Finance leaders from the Group of Seven industrial nations will gather in Tokyo in February to discuss the U.S. subprime mortgage crisis and high oil prices, Japan's finance minister said Friday.
"Subprime problems will be a central topic, and we will also discuss financial markets, high crude oil prices and the world economy," Fukushiro Nukaga told reporters. He said the meeting would take place on Feb. 9 in Tokyo.
Nukaga said finance ministers and central bank governors from the G7 economies will also discuss risk management at financial institutions and bond ratings.
The G7 is comprised of the world's leading economies: the United States, Canada, Britain, France, Germany, Italy and Japan.
Japan takes over the presidency of the Group of Eight nations, or those countries plus Russia, on Jan. 1, 2008, and is slated to host a summit on the northern island of Hokkaido in July.
