A major storm system will sweep through the Sea of Japan on Saturday, bringing winter weather to that part of eastern Asia. The main low pressure system will begin the day over the center of the sea but move gradually to the north toward the border of China and Russia.
A smaller low pressure system will head up the east coast of Japan and out into the Pacific Ocean by the end of the day. Heavy morning rain will move south to north through the country, but rain will change to snow in the evening.
Considerable precipitation in the morning is also likely along the Sea of Japan coast of China and Russia and along the Korean Peninsula. This storm system will carry very cold air behind it, and a frigid night is expected in Mongolia, China and throughout the Yellow Sea region.
Very windy conditions are expected across the Korean Peninsula, eastern China and eastern Russia.
