Euro barely changed against US dollar

The euro was barely changed against the dollar in post-Christmas trading Thursday, slipping back after briefly climbing above US$1.45.
The 13-nation euro bought US$1.4487 in morning European trading, compared with the US$1.4488 it bought in New York late Wednesday. Earlier in Thursday's session, the euro climbed to US$1.4515.
The British pound was up to US$1.9889 from US$1.9836, while the dollar slipped to 114.21 Japanese yen from 114.29 yen.
The dollar has suffered lately from worries over the health of the U.S. economy in the wake of the subprime lending crisis.
Adding to the jitters, crude oil futures jumped Wednesday on supply concerns, stoked by a growing belief that U.S. oil inventories fell last week and by new Turkish airstrikes in northern Iraq.
