Institute for Biotechnology and Medicine Industry (I.B.M.I.) held the "2007 Symbol of National Quality" (SNQ) ceremony on December 20 in Sheraton Taipei Hotel. There were 78 items awarded, chosen from more than 240 contesting products/services.
Important guests like Honorable Chairman of KMT Lien Chan (see photo), as well as the Legislative Yuan President Wang Jin-pyng who is also the Chairperson of I.B.M.I. were invited to address the opening. The SNQ award recipients will become the reference for the consumption of health products.
"People nowadays pay a lot of attention to their health because of the upgrade of living standard. However, there are too many health products available in the market, trying to attract attention from consumers. We see collagen, spirulina, chlorella, and enzymes everywhere. Quality is thus a concern. It is highly appreciated that we have I.B.M.I. to act as the watch dog and examiner for quality assurance so that the consumers can know how to choose their products", said Lien in the opening.
"It has been more than 20 years for biotechnology industry in Taiwan. The output value is estimated to be US$4.7 billion, accounting for 0.06% for the global biotech industry. There are still rooms for development. Therefore, the establishment of SNQ is to encourage further development of this sector", said Wang Jin-pyng during the ceremony.
There were 78 items awarded in the 2007 Symbol of National Quality. The award recipients were divided into several categories: biotechnology, medical equipment, health food, cosmetic/cleaning products, herbs, pharmacy, hospitals, and nursing care. They were chosen from strict evaluation to provide consumers the reference for choosing the right health products.
