Dollar mixed, gold rises in Europe

The U.S. dollar was mixed against other major currencies in European trading Monday afternoon. Gold prices rose.
The euro was quoted at $1.4403, up from $1.4358 late Friday in New York. Later, in midday trading in New York, the euro fetched $1.4403.
Other dollar rates in Europe, compared with late Friday, included 114.34 Japanese yen, up from 114.13; 1.1573 Swiss francs, up from 1.1564; and 0.9890 Canadian dollars, down from 1.0075.
The British pound was quoted at $1.9760, down from $1.9828.
In midday New York trading, the dollar bought 114.40 yen and 1.1566 Swiss francs, while the pound was worth $1.9763.
Gold traded in London at $812.30 bid per troy ounce at late afternoon, up from $810.15 Friday. In Zurich, gold traded at $808.20 per troy ounce, up from $808.10.
Silver opened in London at $14.32 bid per troy ounce, down from $14.36 on Friday.
