Slogan of 101 fireworks display still mystery

The 2008 New Year's Eve countdown will feature a fireworks display of unprecedented scale at Taipei 101, though the slogan to be illuminated on the world's tallest building remains a mystery, the skyscraper's official said Monday.
Michael Liu, Assistant Vice President of the Taipei Financial Center Corp, which owns the building, said he does not want to spoil the surprise in advance. The cancellation of the originally planned press release of the Tourism Bureau under the Ministry of Transportation and Communication, which contributed NT$21 million to sponsor the project, has added to the suspense surrounding the event.
According to Liu, preparations for the show are under way but will be completed Friday for a circuit test.
When the clock strikes midnight Dec. 31, a total of 12,000 rounds of fireworks, 3,000 more than last year, will be launched from sites as high as 500 meters up the building, in 18 to 20 motifs, for a splendid 188 seconds, Liu said.
Noting that the economic adversity in 2007, the color of gold, symbolizing wealth and happiness, has been chosen as the theme color of this year's firework display, signifying a prosperous future and robust economy, he added.
The show will be 80 percent different from the previous ones, with the most up-to-date fireworks to ensure that the festivities outshine all other such events around the world, Liu related, adding that this grand celebration will be packed with excitement and splendor.
To accommodate people attending the fireworks display and countdown party, the 101 shopping mall, its food court, and all restaurants and cafes on the 4th floor will open until 2 a.m., Liu said, adding that there will also be a car exhibition featuring Italian luxurious automobiles from Ferrari and Maserati, Dec. 28 to Jan. 6.
