Rennes draws 0-0 with Toulouse to snap six-match losing streak, PSG wins

Rennes ended a six-match losing streak in the French league with a 0-0 draw against Toulouse on Sunday, Guy Lacombe's first match as manager.
Lacombe, who was fired as PSG coach in January, replaced Pierre Dreossi last week. Rennes, which has gone winless in 11 straight and has scored only three goals since a 2-1 victory at Lens on Oct. 28, almost took the lead in the 50th minute when striker Jimmy Briand forced a save from goalkeeper Nicolas Douchez.
In the 88th, Johan Elmander intercepted a back-pass from Rennes captain Olivier Sorlin and ran through on goal but goalkeeper Simon Pouplin thwarted the Toulouse striker, who had seven goals in his previous four games.
Both clubs remained with 25 points. Rennes' skid has seen the club fall from third to 13th, while Toulouse remained unbeaten in four straight and has climbed five places to 12th.
Also Sunday, Peguy Luyindula scored to give PSG a 1-0 victory at Saint-Etienne, its third win in its last 11 league games.
The fifth win of the season for coach Paul Le Guen's team _ all away from home, pushed it into 16th place with 22 points and out of the relegation zone.
PSG has the second-worst home record in the league, and the best away from home. Saint-Etienne remained in 10th place with 25 points after losing at home for the first time this season.
PSG scored with its first attack of the match in the 51st, when midfielder Didier Digard found Brazilian defender Ceara sprinting down the right, and Luyindula met his curling cross with a glancing header.
All three of Luyindula's goals this season have been from headers, and the former France striker also scored the winner against Auxerre on Dec. 9.
Saint-Etienne dominated the first half, with forwards David Gigliotti and Araujo Ilan threatening most.
In the 17th, Gigliotti's swerving shot from the edge of the penalty area hit the post, and Ilan saw his volley blocked by defender Sylvain Armand in the 36th.
Two minutes later, midfielder Geoffrey Dernis hit the post with a free kick and the ball looped up to the lurking Ilan, whose scissors kick flew high.
A minute later, PSG goalkeeper Mickael Landreau spilled Gigliotti's shot, but reacted well to keep out Ilan's effort from the rebound.
After Luyindula's goal, Gigliotti drew another save from Landreau, and moments later Saint-Etienne goalkeeper Jeremie Janot saved Luyindula's shot with his legs.
The matches were the last before the French league heads into its three-week winter break. Six-time defending champion Lyon leads with 39 points after 19 rounds, four points ahead of second-place Nancy after the two drew 1-1 on Saturday.
Also Saturday, it was: Sochaux 0, Bordeaux 1; Marseille 1, Le Mans 0; Nice 1, Valenciennes 0; Caen 2, Strasbourg 0; Lorient 2, Metz 0; and Auxerre 1, Monaco 0.
Lille's game at Lens was postponed because of a frozen pitch.
