Keelung girl found hung, but motive not yet known

A 10-year-old girl was found late Saturday hanging dead in her room in Keelung, police said, but investigators yesterday said they needed more time to determine whether the death was a suicide or an accident.
According to local media reports, the girl, surnamed Tsao, was rushed to the hospital and pronounced dead at around 8 p.m. Saturday after her parents found the little girl hanging from a fabric rope attached to a nail in the wall.
Prosecutors investigating the case said the girl died from suffocation. They are still looking into whether the girl's death was a suicide or an accident. The prosecutors added that there was no evidence of foul play in the girl's death.
The girl's parents and grandparents were quoted by the local press as saying they did not believe their beloved girl would commit suicide.Police said they did not find any suicide note at the scene.
According to the prosecutors' initial investigation, Tsao was doing well in school and her interaction with schoolmates was normal. The prosecutors said Tsao did not have arguments with her classmates nor did her family suffer from financial problems prior to her death. The prosecutors suggested that there were two possibilities that might explain Tsao's death: one is that Tsao really wanted to seek death; the other is that Tsao was in a bad mood and she was imitating the suicide plots from TV programs or the Internet, but she accidentally lost her life during the process.
Tsao's grandfather said his granddaughter was an obedient girl. She was a fourth-grader in Keelung Municipal Jhengbin Elementary School. On the day of the accident, Tsao went bicycling with her classmates in the afternoon, and she was acting very normally when she returned home, Tsao's grandfather said. But when Tsao's aunt went to her room to call her for dinner, the little girl was found to have hanged herself, the grandfather added.
