Excelsior Rotterdam beats Ajax 2-1 in Dutch league

Excelsior Rotterdam claimed its first win over Ajax in the Dutch league's 51-year history, beating the 29-time champion 2-1 on Sunday and scoring its first goal after just 30 seconds.
Mitchell Pique got the early goal for Excelsior and Geert den Ouden extended the lead in the 49th. Hedwiges Maduro pulled one back for Ajax with a close-range effort in the 63rd.
Ajax's second league defeat of the season left it in third place after Feyenoord's 2-0 win at NEC Nijmegen.
Defending champion PSV Eindhoven beat FC Utrecht 4-1 Saturday to move top of the standings.
PSV has 33 points. Feyenoord has 32, and Ajax has 31. At the other end, Excelsior moved off the bottom and now has 12 points.
PSV won with Kenneth Perez's two goals and two further strikes from Danko Lazovic and substitute Danny Koevermans. Leroy George scored for Utrecht.
At Nijmegen, Jonathan de Guzman scored in the 48th and 60th in Feyenoord coach Bert van Marwijk's 250th game in charge.
AZ Alkmaar hosted Roda JC later Sunday.
Sparta Rotterdam's match against NAC Breda was suspended Saturday due to heavy snow.
