Biathlon world champion Magdalena Neuner won Germany's woman athlete of the year award, while gymnast Fabian Hambuechen captured the men's honors.
The men's handball world champions were voted 2007 team of the year by the country's sports journalists in Saturday's ceremony. The handball team edged Germany's women soccer World Cup champions with 4,677 votes to 4,118.
The 20-year-old Neuner won three world titles at Antholz, Italy, becoming the youngest multiple gold medalist ever in biathlon. She received 3,410 votes to discus thrower Franka Dietzsch's 2,373.
"Everything has been happening at once, often there isn't a moment to catch my breath," Neuner said.
Hambuechen's gold medal in horizontal bars was the first world title for a German gymnast in 10 years and made him the first selected from his sport in 29 years.
Hambuechen received 4,575 votes, far ahead of table tennis player Timo Boll with 1,614 and NBA basketball star Dirk Nowitzki, third with 1,530.
