UK travelers' Christmas vacations scuttled by firm's collapse

About 10,000 people have had their Christmas vacations canceled at the last minute after a British travel company ceased trading.
Travelscope Holidays, which deals primarily with cruises and bus trips, went into administration on Friday.
"All trading activities are currently being suspended and no further holiday bookings are being taken," the company said in a statement.
Menzies Corporate Restructuring, the administrator, said about 40,000 people were affected in total, of whom about 10,000 were due to travel during the holiday period. All will receive a full refund under a scheme operated by the Association of British Travel Agents.
Menzies said Travelscope Holidays, which has 270 employees with an annual turnover of about 80 million pounds (US$160 million, euro110 million), had experienced cash flow difficulties.
"While it endeavors to seek options for refinancing, it has been placed into administration in order to best protect the company's customers and creditors," Menzies said.
