Ajax thrashes VVV Venlo 6-1 to reclaim top spot in Dutch league

Ajax rallied with two goals from Alberto Luque to thrash VVV Venlo 6-1 Sunday and reclaim the top spot in the Dutch league.
Feyenoord temporarily took the leadership Saturday after beating SC Heerenveen 2-0 with two first half goals from Roy Maakay and Nicky Hofs. Defending champion PSV Eindhoven was held to a 1-1 draw at NAC Breda.
Ajax has 16 points, one ahead of Feyenoord. PSV has 14 points.
Karim Soltani headed Mike Mampuya's long throw in the fourth minute to give VVV an early lead. Luque equalized with a close range effort in the 16th _ his first goal for Ajax _ before adding another three minutes later off Luis Suarez's pass.
Hedwiges Maduro scored off Urby Emanuelson's free-kick in the 26th and substitute Dennis Rommedahl added a goal in the 32nd. New signing Laurent Delorge's first goal for Ajax made it 5-1 in the 77th and Klaas-Jan Huntelaar wrapped up the win with his league-leading eighth goal in the 88th.
Also Sunday, Heracles Almelo beat AZ Alkmaar 2-1, with goals from Everton and Rob Maas.
Belgium forward Moussa Dembele put AZ ahead with a goal in the 14th but Everton equalized for Heracles in the 25th. Maas then smashed in a penalty in the 57th to give Heracles its first home win over AZ since March 1995 and its first victory of the season.
Kenneth Perez scored in the 76th to cancel Matthew Amoah's opener as PSV drew 1-1 against NAC on Saturday. PSV plays Inter Milan on Tuesday in Group G of the Champions League.
