German chancellor Merkel to visit Bush's Crawford, Texas, ranch in November

President George W. Bush and his wife, Laura, will host German Chancellor Angela Merkel for a two-day visit at the president's Texas ranch on Nov. 9-10, the White House said.
Press secretary Dana Perino said Thursday the German leader will be at the Crawford, Texas, ranch Nov. 9-10, and Bush looks forward to "continuing his close consultations with the chancellor on shared goals.
The agenda includes NATO; Afghanistan, where German troops are represented in the NATO force; the Israeli-Palestinian problem; the violence-ridden Darfur region of Sudan; international terrorism; and others.
Merkel quickly became one of Bush's closest European colleagues after her conservative party ended the seven-year chancellorship of center-left Gerhard Schroeder in 2005. Unlike Merkeel, Schroeder was a visceral opponent of the Iraq war.
