Atletico Madrid signed midfielder Thiago Motta from FC Barcelona to a one-year contract on Friday.
The 25-year-old Brazilian, whose transfer depends on a routine medical, will be presented by Atletico on Monday.
Motta, who has represented his national team twice, spent nine years at Barcelona, scoring six goals in 96 league games. On his most recent appearance on Wednesday, he scored in the team's 5-0 win over Inter Milan in a friendly.
Motta's arrival continues Atletico's rebuilding since last season. The club has made nine signings, including Jose Antonio Reyes from Arsenal, Simao Sabrosa from Benfica and Uruguay striker Diego Forlan from Villarreal.
Atletico's French midfielder Peter Luccin was expected to join Zaragoza later Friday to make way for Motta.
Atletico, which lost against Real Madrid in the first match of the new season, is also reportedly attempting to sign Villarreal's Argentina midfielder Juan Roman Riquelme before the transfer deadline at 2200 GMT.
