Pondexter's free throws with 2.1 seconds left lift Mercury to 102-100 win over Silver Stars

Cappie Pondexter scored 26 points _ including two crucial free throws with 2.1 seconds left _ to lift Phoenix to a 102-100 victory over San Antonio in Game 1 of the Western Conference finals Thursday.
The Mercury led from the second quarter until the last seconds of the fourth. Shanna Crossley made three free throws with 15 seconds remaining to put the Silver Stars within three points.
Becky Hammon then hit a 3 for San Antonio to tie the game at 100 with 2.1 seconds left. However a foul on the inbound play saw Pondexter go to the line, where she hit both free throws.
Crossley's 3-point attempt at the buzzer didn't fall.
Phoenix now returns home for Game 2 on Saturday and Game 3, if necessary, on Sunday.
Hammon had 32 points to lead the Silver Stars.
