Olga Kaniskina led a Russian 1-2 finish in the women's 20-kilometer walk at the track and field world championships Friday, with Tatyana Shemyakina taking silver and Spain's Maria Vasco earning bronze.
Kaniskina had a 44-second lead over Shemyakina at the halfway mark and a 1:20 cushion to Vasco and maintained a big gap over the second stage, walking into the Nagai Stadium by her herself and finishing in 1 hour, 30 minutes and nine seconds.
Shemyankina was next in 1:30:42 and Vasco was five seconds further back.
Olympic silver medalist Kjersti Platzer of Norway was fourth in 1:31:24.
Olimpiada Ivanova, the 2005 and world record holder, did not finish _ it was her first race of the year.
