Fulham says injured Brian McBride hopes to resume playing in December

Fulham captain Brian McBride could be playing again in December after successful surgery on his left knee.
The former U.S. international dislocated his kneecap while scoring in Fulham's 2-1 loss to Middlesbrough on Aug. 18. McBride went to the United States for treatment after consultation with the U.S. national team's knee orthopedic specialist.
"Investigations confirmed he suffered a complete rupture of his quadricep muscle in the areas where the quadricep inserts into the patella," Fulham physiotherapist Jason Palmer said Thursday. "Consequently he underwent a surgical procedure to repair and reattach the muscle.
"His recovery will be a steady process in the early stages and we are hoping for a return some time around Christmas."
The 35-year-old striker has returned to Fulham to complete his recovery.
McBride has been at Fulham since January 2004. He also played with Everton and Preston and Major League Soccer side Columbus Crew.
Also Thursday, Fulham signed 20-year-old defender Nathan Ashton on a two-year contract from Charlton.
