Rawlinson wins gold for Australia

Australia's Jana Rawlinson held off defending champion and world record holder Yuliya Pechenkina to win the 400-meters hurdles Thursday at the track and field world championships.
Rawlinson, the 2003 champion, finished in 53.31 seconds and was the first person to beat Pechenkina this year.
Pechenkina took silver in 53.50 and Anna Jesien of Poland was third in 53.92.
Olympic champion Fani Halkia of Greece was eliminated in the semifinals.
