Vanuatu 15-0 winners over American Samoa

Seule Soromon scored five goals and Etienne Mermer added four as Vanuatu overwhelmed American Samoa 15-0 in an Oceania Confederation World Cup qualifying soccer match Wednesday.
Sakama Francois added three goals for Vanuatu, which led 5-0 at halftime.
Elsewhere Wednesday,Tuvalu and Tahiti played to a 1-1 draw, New Caledonia won its third match of the South Pacific Games tournament with a 3-0 win over the Cook Islands and Samoa beat Tonga 2-0.
Viliamu Sekifu scored a second-half goal for Tuvalu and Wiiliams Axep one for Tahiti. Iamel Kabeu scored twice for New Caledonia and Piene Waloka scored the other.
Desmond Faaiuaso and Lionel Taylor scored Samoa's goals.
New Caledonia leads Pool A with three straight wins while Fiji, which had a bye Wednesday, is 2-0. The Solomon Islands, also idle Wednesday, and Vanuatu are 2-0 in Pool B. Samoa has two wins in three matches.
The finalists from the Sept. 7 gold medal match and the third-place finisher will qualify for the second Oceania round, a four-country tournament with New Zealand.
The winner of that tournament must play an Asian Confederation team in a two-match series, with the winner advancing to the 2010 World Cup in South Africa.
