Air Mauritius flight hits strong turbulence before landing in Hong Kong

An Air Mauritius flight hit strong turbulence shortly before landing in Hong Kong on Thursday, and at least a dozen passengers were injured, officials and local media said.
The flight, MK640, which originated in Mauritius, hit the turbulence about 20 minutes before its scheduled arrival, Hong Kong's Cable TV reported.
Government spokeswoman Suzanne Lee said 12 passengers were "unwell" but she didn't know the nature of their injuries. Cable TV said 16 were injured, with two passengers requiring head braces.
One unharmed passenger, who was not identified, told Cable TV he saw another passenger bleeding from the forehead.
A woman who answered the phone at Air Mauritius' Hong Kong office confirmed the incident and then quickly hung up. She did not give her name.
Mauritius is in the Indian Ocean east of another island, Madagascar.
