Taiwan shares rallied Thursday along with bourses across Asia after Wall Street gains overnight.
The Weighted Price Index of the Taiwan Stock Exchange rose 123.89 points, or 1.5 percent, to close at 8771.21 points.
Stocks with exposure to China and non-tech shares outperformed the market, and may gain further on Friday, traders said.
"The non-tech strength is related to China doing so well and the rise in the renminbi," said Marc-Andre Gilbert with KGI Securities. He said the stock index would stay in the 8700-8900 band Friday.
Uni-President Enterprises rose 6.9 percent to NT$36.25. Far Eastern Textile rose 3.1 percent to NT$36.30. Nan Ya Plastics rose 2.8 percent to NT$77.20.
