Vanuatu 15-0 winners over American Samoa

Seule Soromon scored five goals and Etienne Mermer added four as Vanuatu overwhelmed American Samoa 15-0 in an Oceania Confederation World Cup qualifying soccer match Wednesday.
Sakama Francois added three goals for Vanuatu, which led 5-0 at halftime.
In another match Wednesday, Tuvalu and Tahiti played to a 1-1 draw. New Caledonia played the Cook Islands and Samoa took on Tonga in later matches Wednesday.
Viliamu Sekifu scored a second-half goal for Tuvalu and Wiiliams Axep one for Tahiti.
Fiji, which had a bye Wednesday, and New Caledonia are 2-0 atop Pool A while the Solomon Islands, also idle Wednesday, and Vanuatu are 2-0 in Pool B.
The finalists from the Sept. 7 gold medal match and the third-place finisher will qualify for the second Oceania round, a four-country tournament with New Zealand.
The winner of that tournament must play an Asian Confederation team in a two-match series, with the winner advancing to the 2010 World Cup in South Africa.
