Boca Juniors snaps league-leading Independiente's four-match winning streak

Boca Juniors snapped Independiente's four-match winning streak, beating the Apertura season front-runner 3-2 Wednesday to pull within two points of the top of the table.
River Plate, struggling to quell violence among rival factions within its barrabrava fan clubs that brawled only blocks from Monumental stadium Wednesday, won its first Apertura season match, 4-2 over Estudiantes.
River's triumph came in its first match played this season at Monumental since the Aug. 9 shooting death of a fan elsewhere in the capital raised questions about security. A brief outburst of street fighting by dozens of rival River fans triggered more than a half dozen arrests and some minor injuries when hooligans battled each other near the city limits.
Despite the loss, Independiente remained atop the table with 12 points after the midweek round, followed by Boca with 10 and Velez Sarsfield with nine points after five rounds.
In Boca's showdown with Independiente, Leandro Gracian raced halfway down the field and eluded the Independiente goalkeeper to tap the winner into the net in the 68th minute.
Independiente opened scoring in only the second minute when German Denis scored his league-leading sixth goal. Boca pulled to 1-1 off an own-goal 15 minutes later by Independiente's Guillermo Rodriguez.
Martin Palermo headed in another for Boca two minutes before halftime and Gracian added the eventual winner midway through the second half.
Carlos Matheu pulled Independiente within a goal four minutes later.
At Monumental, Chilean newcomer Alexis Sanchez and Radamal Falcao both scored in the final nine minutes to pace River. Sanchez's goal in the 81st was his first since joining River and Falcao's tally came three minutes after getting kicked by Independiente's Marcos Angeleri, a transgression that drew a red card.
Leandro Benitez put Estudiantes up 1-0 in the second minute. River equalized five minutes later with a goal by Fernando Belluschi, striking with a right-footer from outside the area.
In the 23rd, Marco Ruben put River head with a header, which held until Belluschi was sent off for kicking a rival and Juan Salgueiro equalized in the 80th.
In other play, San Lorenzo overcame a three-goal deficit by the 28 minute to beat Racing 4-3.
Elsewhere it was Tigre 1, Olimpo 0; Lanus 2, Banfield 1; Colon Santa Fe 2, Rosario Central 0; Gimnasia de Jujuy 1, Arsenal 0; Huracan 3, Argentinos Juniors 2; Gimnasia y Esgrima 2, San Martin de San Juan 0; and Newell's Old Boys 2, Velez Sarsfield 0.
