Yankee fans urged not to buy pirated goods

The United States Major League Baseball Players Association released a statement on Monday via the sports agency CSMG International, asking local fans of New York Yankees pitcher Wang Chien-ming (王建民) not to buy products that have not been authorized by Wang or the association.
The announcement stated that certain products currently being sold in Taiwan and bearing the name or logo the famous Taiwanese pitcher have not been officially authorized.
According to the statement, the products sold by some individuals and companies, including Sherry Yang, JAS Sports, Mayler Express and Lotto World, do not have the league's permission to use the name, trademarks or logo of Wang and the association.
Only the bobble heads and teddy bears sold by Yung-Hsin Hang Boutic International (Teddy Bears) and Q Man/Brave Chemical (bobble heads) have been properly authorized, the statement said.
Both Judy Heeter, the director of Business Affairs and Licensing for MLBPA and Wang signed the press announcement, which was released to the local media Monday.
The statement came following a local police crackdown recently on counterfeit New York Yankees clothing bearing the name and number of popular pitcher Wang.
The National Police Agency disclosed in a press release last Monday that it had seized an increasing amount of fake Wang Yankees clothing at a night market in southern Taiwan.
The police also called on the general public not to buy pirated or unauthorized products and invited people to report on the sale of fake products in order to help protect intellectual property rights.
