Hanke spoils Karlsruher SC's euphoria

Mike Hanke and Hanno Balitsch scored second-half goals and rallied Hannover 96 to a 2-1 win at Karlsruher SC on Friday, spoiling the host side's first home match in the Bundesliga in more than nine years.
Hanke's header equalized in the 55th minute and was followed by Balitsch's 75th-minute winner, dispiriting the crowd of 27,800 at Karlsruhe's Wildparkstadion.
"The first goal gave the team a lift," Balitsch said. "We lacked the decisiveness in the first half."
Maik Franz gave Karlsruher the lead in the 37th minute.
Karlsruher, which claimed the German league second-division title earlier this year, won at Nuremberg 2-0 in its Bundesliga opener on Sunday.
The victory drew a week of lavish praise from sports media, which suggested Karlsruher was far superior to promoted teams from recent years even though it has one of the Bundesliga's smallest budgets _ euro13.5 million (US$18 million).
The crowd enthusiasm that followed Franz's goal faded in the second half _ when the stadium scoreboard went dead _ as an unmarked Hanke scored by heading in Arnold Bruggink's free kick.
