Indian shares end flat; cement stocks offset gains in ONGC

Indian shares ended flat Tuesday as cement stocks offset gains in index heavyweight Oil & Natural Gas Corp.
The Bombay Stock Exchange's 30-share Sensex index fell 16 points, or 0.1 percent, to end at 15,001 points.
On the broader National Stock Exchange, the 50-company S&P Nifty index fell 0.08 percent, to end at 4,370 points.
"It was a subdued, low-volume trading day as funds preferred to stay on sidelines ahead of the holiday tomorrow," said B. Sahu, a dealer at local brokerage Khandwala Securities. "Global markets also failed to provide any direction."
Indian financial markets will be closed Wednesday, a national holiday for India's Independence Day.
State-owned Oil & Natural Gas Corp. closed up 1.3 percent at 854 rupees and HCL Technologies rose 0.6 percent to 319 rupees.
Cement shares fell as investors booked profits on recent gains. Associated Cement Companies Ltd. slid 2.2 percent to 990 rupees and Grasim Industries Ltd. declined 2 percent to finish at 2,879 rupees.
