Rangers keeps lead in Scottish Premier League with 2-0 win over St. Mirren; Celtic also wins

Rangers kept the lead of the Scottish Premier League on Saturday when it beat visiting St. Mirren 2-0.
Barry Ferguson and Daniel Cousin scored in the second half at Ibrox to keep Rangers two points ahead of fierce city rival Celtic, which looked set to continue a slow start to its title defense until it scored three late goals to win 4-1 at Falkirk.
Rangers, which has won a record 51 league titles to Celtic's 41, went 1-0 ahead in the 52nd when Ferguson hit a shot into the top corner. Ferguson scored twice in last week's opening 3-0 win over Inverness Caledonian Thistle.
Cousin made it 2-0 when he scored from a pass by Nacho Novo.
Celtic, which was held 0-0 at home by Kilmarnock in last week's opening round, trailed to Michael Higdon's fifth-minute header before Kenny Milne's own goal made it 1-1 in the 30th.
The scores were level until the 76th when the two-time defending champion hit three goals in five minutes.
Kenny Miller put Celtic ahead and Shunsuke Nakamura made it 3-1 in the 79th. Jan Vennegoor of Hesselink completed the scoring two minutes later.
Also Saturday, Hibernian beat Gretna 4-2 and Motherwell beat visiting Inverness 2-1.
Hearts is at Aberdeen on Sunday, and Dundee United is at Kilmarnock.
