Deutsche Telekom executive who once worked at Siemens to leave company

Deutsche Telekom AG said Thursday that Lothar Pauly, the head of its T-Systems media and broadcast unit and a former executive at Siemens AG, is leaving the company after asking to be relieved of his duties.
Bonn-based Deutsche Telekom did not specify why Pauly was leaving, but said in a brief statement that he and the company were parting "on the best terms."
Pauly, 48, whom media reports have said is under investigation in the bribery scandal at Siemens, was not immediately available for comment Wednesday.
He joined Deutsche Telekom in October 2005 from Siemens, where he headed the communications division. Investigators in Germany, the United States and elsewhere are examining allegations of massive bribery and corruption allegations at that unit.
Siemens has been shaken by investigations over hundreds of millions of euros taken from corporate accounts and allegedly used to pay bribes to help land telecommunications deals.
In January, The Wall Street Journal reported that Pauly, along with Siemens CFO Joe Kaeser and management board member Rudi Lamprecht were aware of the alleged bribery practices.
Siemens rejected the report at the time, adding that neither Kaeser or Lamprecht had been contacted by prosecutors in Munich.
On Thursday, Munich prosecutors declined to comment on German media reports that they were investigating Pauly.
Siemens' former board Chairman Heinrich von Pierer stepped down in April, expressing hope that his successor would be able to steer the company into calmer waters, and Chief Executive Klaus Kleinfeld said in May that he would not renew his contract with the company. Neither has been the subject of any of the investigations.
Deutsche Telekom said chief financial officer Karl-Gerhard Eick would take over Pauly's duties on an interim basis.
Shares of Deutsche Telekom rose by 0.7 percent to euro13.81 (US$18.53).
